Visual artist Wassily Kandinsky is one of the founders of Abstraction in the visual arts: his work "Point and Line to Plane" outlines the three basic structural and dynamic paradigms of not only the Cosmos and Nature but also of music and the visual arts. Edward Cowie's music follows these paradigms: the first movement reflects Kandinsky's assertion that that a simple point represents the beginning of things and the essential nucleus of all creation.
